We love to share information about our Cozy Colonial Cuenca Condo (CCCC), because we love the condo, we love the security of a guard 24/7, we love the availability fulfilling our daily needs within blocks, and we love the proximity to the historic center. Let me point out that Cuenca is a safe city, so the guard on duty is more for convenience than safety.

Why cozy? Although the condo is spacious, being a one bedroom, it only accommodates two people. The coziness emanates from the furnishings and décor, making you feel at home. With the bedroom upstairs, it allows for different spaces for those who want some private time. We have tried for anticipate anyone’s needs, including a fully equipped kitchen.

Why Colonial? This area was originally a Cañari settlement called Guapondeleg dating back to 500 AD. The Cañari people were conquered by the Incas, who absorbed their technology, but built over the Cañari architecture with their own, also renaming the area Tomebamba.

Afterwards, the Inca leader commanded that a great city be built to be called Pumapungo, "the door of the Puma" (Visit the museum and the ruins by the same name). By the time the Spaniards arrive, both the remaining Cañari people and the Incas had left the area. The Spaniards found the Incan ruins. Spanish explorer Gil Ramírez Dávalos founded the settlement on April 12, 1557, naming it after Cuenca, Spain. Thirty years earlier, King Charles V of Spain had established a set of demanding guidelines for city planning, Cuenca was planned accordingly.

Why Cuenca? This is the name of the city, but be careful when searching it out. Do not confuse it with Cuenca, Spain, its namesake. The full name of the city is Santa Ana de los Ríos de Cuenca. Cuenca sits in the Andes Mountains and have four rivers flowing through it: Tomebamba, Yanuncay, Tarqui and Machangara. Why Condo? It is a privately-owned condominium (apartment) in a building of five floors. There are only five apartments on each floor. There is a guard at the front door 24/7 who opens the front door for those approaching the building. A modern elevator provides access to the parking garage, ground floor and the five residential floors.
